In 2010, Sgt. Vito Salvatore of the Mount Kisco Police Department in Westchester County, NY, was diagnosed with Leukemia and was in dire need of a bone marrow transplant. Due to the advancements in stem cell research, Sgt. Salvatore was able to receive stem cells from a male donor from Germany. Doctors at Montefiore Hospital were able to use the donor's stem cells to make new bone marrow for Sgt. Salvatore and gave him the transplant he so desperately needed, ultimately saving his life. Today, Sgt. Salvatore is back to work, full duty, and is very grateful to the donor, the doctors, and the nursing staff that helped him recover from his illness. STEM CELLS SAVE LIVES!! Join the ride, join the cause. All donations and proceeds will benefit the Stem Cell Research Program of Montefiore Hospital. This is a police escorted ride! At the hospital there will be music, BBQ, guest speakers, and parking!
