The kind where community, nature, and just a little adventure all come together.

The day kicks off with volunteer trail cleanups along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and the Kingston Greenline. It’s a chance to roll up your sleeves, meet some great people, and help keep some of our most beautiful local spaces looking their best. And honestly, there’s something pretty satisfying about knowing you made a small impact on a place so many of us enjoy every day.

If you’re more into exploring than cleaning, there’s a tree walk led by naturalist Tom O’Dowd that dives into the incredible variety of species right along the trail. It’s one of those experiences that makes you realize how much you’ve probably walked past without even noticing—and once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

Then, as the sun goes down, the vibe shifts from outdoorsy to inspiring.

The day wraps up with the 2026 Global Trail Running Film Festival at the Denizen Theatre, hosted by local ultrarunner Dan Zimerman. Expect a lineup of short films from around the world that capture the grit, beauty, and pure emotion of trail running. Whether you’re a runner or just someone who appreciates a good story, this is the kind of event that sticks with you.

Even better—proceeds support the Wallkill Valley Land Trust, so just by showing up, you’re helping protect the very trails you spent the day enjoying.

Whether you’re in it for the fresh air, the community, the learning, or the inspiration… this is your day. That means every DMV office will be closed and all online services will be shut down as part of a massive system upgrade.

Starting February 13 at 2 p.m., DMV branches across the state will close. They won’t reopen until the morning of February 18. During that time, you won’t be able to process transactions online either.

Why the shutdown? Believe it or not, some of the DMV’s computer systems date back to 1968. Yes — nearly six decades old.

DMV Deputy Commissioner Lisa Koumjian says the current system is incredibly difficult to update and modernize. So instead of patching it yet again, they’re doing a full overhaul. Technicians will use the five-day window to consolidate 30 million records from multiple outdated systems into one streamlined platform.

Right now, employees sometimes have to move through eight to ten different systems just to complete one task. The new setup will bring everything into one unified system.

So what does that mean for you?

Officials say once the new platform is up and running, customers should notice shorter wait times, better efficiency inside offices, and more services available online.

Bottom line: If your license, registration, or any other DMV matter can’t wait, take care of it before February 13 at 2 p.m. Otherwise, you’ll have to sit tight until the 18th.

And as always, be careful online — the DMV is also warning about a rise in scam texts linking to fake DMV websites. And this isn’t just any move. This 92-acre farm (yeah… 92 acres!) means the HVSPCA can finally expand their care beyond cats and dogs to help all kinds of animals. The HVSPCA has launched a GoFundMe to help transform the Montgomery farm into a fully functional, safe, and comfortable haven for all the animals they’ll be rescuing.
