If you’re looking for a reason to get outside, breathe in some fresh Hudson Valley air, and maybe even give back a little—this Saturday is it.
Celebrate Trails Day is happening April 25 in New Paltz, and it’s shaping up to be one of those “only in the Hudson Valley” kind of days. The kind where community, nature, and just a little adventure all come together.
The day kicks off with volunteer trail cleanups along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and the Kingston Greenline. It’s a chance to roll up your sleeves, meet some great people, and help keep some of our most beautiful local spaces looking their best. And honestly, there’s something pretty satisfying about knowing you made a small impact on a place so many of us enjoy every day.
If you’re more into exploring than cleaning, there’s a tree walk led by naturalist Tom O’Dowd that dives into the incredible variety of species right along the trail. It’s one of those experiences that makes you realize how much you’ve probably walked past without even noticing—and once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
Then, as the sun goes down, the vibe shifts from outdoorsy to inspiring.
The day wraps up with the 2026 Global Trail Running Film Festival at the Denizen Theatre, hosted by local ultrarunner Dan Zimerman. Expect a lineup of short films from around the world that capture the grit, beauty, and pure emotion of trail running. Whether you’re a runner or just someone who appreciates a good story, this is the kind of event that sticks with you.
Even better—proceeds support the Wallkill Valley Land Trust, so just by showing up, you’re helping protect the very trails you spent the day enjoying.
Whether you’re in it for the fresh air, the community, the learning, or the inspiration… this is your day. If you’ve been meaning to get outside more, this is your sign.
See you on the trails.
