If you’re a commuter, traveler, or just someone who loves having more options — get ready for a major upgrade!
Metro-North just announced that by spring 2026, the Hudson Line is getting extended all the way up to Albany-Rensselaer Station! That’s right — no more stopping at Poughkeepsie. We’re talking direct service from Grand Central Terminal to Albany, with one round-trip train daily.
So why the big move? With some Amtrak service suspended due to tunnel repairs in NYC, Metro-North is stepping in to fill the gap — and doing it with competitive fares to sweeten the deal. Governor Hochul and Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi Vonashek are calling this a critical link for the region, and I couldn’t agree more.
Over two million riders a year are expected to benefit, improving connectivity across the Hudson Valley and Capital Region. On top of that, Amtrak’s bringing back one of its Empire Service round-trips and adding a new fare cap for coach seats between Albany and NYC.
It’s a big win for commuters, weekend travelers, and everyone in between. Let’s goooo!
Stay tuned to K104 for more updates — and maybe I’ll see you on that Albany train soon!
