The City of Newburgh is giving residents a new way to recognize the brave men and women who have served our country.

The new Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program will honor current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces by displaying personalized military banners on city-owned light poles throughout Newburgh. It's a visible and lasting tribute to the hometown heroes who have answered the call to serve.

Each banner will remain on display for two years before being presented to the honored service member or their family as a keepsake.

If you'd like to recognize a veteran or an active-duty military member, now's the time to apply. Applications are being accepted through September 30. Forms are available at the City Clerk's Office inside Newburgh City Hall or can be downloaded from the City of Newburgh's website.

It's a meaningful way for the community to say "thank you" to those who have served and sacrificed for our country.
