Newburgh celebrated the unofficial start to summer over Memorial Day weekend by reopening its new and improved pool and splash pad at the Delano Hitch-Aquatic Center on Washington Street. The center underwent an extensive $15.5 million renovation paid for through a combination of federal American Rescue Plan Act funding and an $8 million grant from the state’s NY SWIMS program
City officials formally announced the pool’s grand opening. Newburgh’s Chief of Staff Mike Neppl called the renovations the “centerpiece” of the City Council’s $140 million plan to improve infrastructure.
Mayor Torrance Harvey told the crowd that the new facility was a “symbol of what we can accomplish when we unite together.”
The upgrades include a 49-by-75-foot laned pool that meets Americans with Disabilities Act standards, and a 7,500-square-foot splash pad outfitted with an array of spraying and dumping features. The center also features a new concessions stand and locker rooms.
Newburgh is offering season and daily pass options for visitors, with different rates for families, adults, seniors and youth. More information about entry fees can be found at cityofnewburgh.recdesk.com/Community/Membership.
