It’s not something you expect to hear on a regular night in the Hudson Valley.
The FAA is investigating after a small plane — a Cessna 172 — crashed into the Hudson River in Newburgh around 8 p.m.
According to officials, two people were on board at the time of the crash. In what can only be described as incredible news, both the pilot and passenger survived with minor injuries. Authorities say they were able to swim safely to shore before being transported to a local hospital.
Kathy Hochul expressed gratitude for the outcome, noting how fortunate it was that both individuals made it out safely.
Local first responders, including the Middle Hope Fire Department and Newburgh Emergency Medical Services, quickly arrived on scene to assist.
It’s still unclear what caused the crash, but the FAA investigation is underway.
For now, the headline we’re thankful to share: everyone survived.
