Winter Storm Safety Tips

Alright Hudson Valley, let’s talk snow… because a big one is on the way!

Our Hudson Valley will be seeing a Significant/Major Winter Storm starting Sunday morning through Monday morning. Predictions right now are calling for the potential of 10'' to 18' plus inches of snow,   The snow really starts to ramp up Sunday around noon and that’s when conditions could go downhill fast with extreme cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills.

If you can stay off the roads, that's the best move. Travel is discouraged. But if you have to be out, please slow it down and make sure your car is ready. A few smart safety tips:

  • Keep a winter storm kit  in your car (blankets, flashlight, water, snacks, phone charger)

  • Make sure your gas tank at least half way filled

  • Let someone know where you are going and when you would be arriving

  • Watch for icy patches, especially on bridges and overpasses

At home, now’s a good time to prepare:

  • Charge your phones and devices

  • Stock up on essentials and medications

  • Set your thermostat to a safe level and keep space heaters away from anything flammable

  • Check in on neighbors, seniors, and anyone who might need help

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this storm and sharing updates as they come in. Stay tuned to K104's Stormcenter for the latest information.

Stay safe, stay warm, and don’t take unnecessary chances out there.
