The hoodie is coming out of the closet, pumpkin spice is everywhere and the Hudson Valley is about to put on its annual color show. Fall is officially here, and from Westchester to Orange and Dutchess Counties, there’s a LOT happening!
Westchester gets spooky! The legendary Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze is back at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson through November 8, featuring more than 7,000 hand-carved jack o’lanterns. Sleepy Hollow also goes all-in on Halloween with Twilight Village, Irving’s Legend, ghostly experiences and plenty of Headless Horseman fun.
How about some '90s with your fall foliage? The Sleepy Hollow Music Festival takes over Kingsland Point Park October 3 with Everclear, The Smithereens with Marshall Crenshaw, Fastball, Sophie B. Hawkins and more.
History comes alive, too. REV FEST 250 happens October 24–25 at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. More than 500 living historians will recreate life during the American Revolution, culminating with a large-scale reenactment of the Battle of White Plains. Admission is free.
Orange County means Applefest! One of the biggest fall traditions in our area, Warwick Applefest returns Sunday, October 4. We're talking more than 150 craft vendors, 75+ food vendors, four stages of live music and, naturally, apple pie contests.
And if your perfect fall day involves actually picking the apples yourself, Orange County has plenty of orchards and farms to explore, including Lawrence Farms Orchards in Newburgh. If you're looking for something a little scarier, Pure Terror Scream Park in Monroe can take care of that Halloween itch.
Dutchess County brings the farm-fresh fall vibes. Apple and pumpkin picking is happening at spots including Fishkill Farms in Hopewell Junction, Barton Orchards in Poughquag, Meadowbrook Farm in Wappingers Falls, Greig Farm in Red Hook and several other farms throughout the county.
Head to Beacon on October 18 for the Beacon Sloop Club Pumpkin Festival at Pete and Toshi Seeger Riverfront Park. Pumpkins, food, Hudson River views and even free sails aboard the Woody Guthrie, weather permitting — and the festival itself is free.
And here's one that's about as Hudson Valley fall as you can get: the New York State Sheep & Wool Festival returns to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck October 17–18 with hundreds of vendors, sheep, fiber arts, demonstrations, workshops and plenty more.
